Ceret is situated in the Pyrennees Orientales about 15 miles inland from Perpignan. it is a pretty walled medieval town and has been a refuge for many famous artists for many years. Matisse, Picasso and Manolo stayed there and donated art pieces to various people and the town. All these are now housed in the Ceret Modern Art museum which is well worth a visit. There are many art galleries in the town all within a 10mn walk of one another.
The market is great, it is every saturday morning and has a wide range of goods, from the usual food items to art, cloth, beds, clothes. You can taste different olive oils, local honeys, pink garlic and great little petit fours as you walk by. It also has singers, bands, mime artists to entertain you as you walk through the market. Very busy in the high season it is brilliant in the spring or autumn. A drink or a snack on one of the many bars and restaurants terraces is a lovely way to end the visit
